Wife and Son of Senior Railway Official Shot Dead in Lucknow
Two murders rocked the state capital Lucknow on Saturday after the wife and son of a senior official with the Indian Railways were shot dead by unknown miscreants. The house where the murders took place is located in the Gautampalli area, a high-security zone. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s official residence is also located nearby.
The murder of the 49-year-old woman and her 20-year-old son took place amid the lockdown since the state has imposed weekend restrictions to contain the coronavirus spread.

Double Murder In Lucknow
The railway official, identified as RD Vajpayee, is currently posted in Delhi.
Lucknow Police Commissioner Sujeet Pandey and Director General of Police HC Awasthi rushed to the spot soon after the murders. A dog squad was also deployed to the crime scene.
“The bodies of the wife and son of senior railways officer RD Bajpayee have been found in their Railway Colony house today,” said Pandey. “Prime facie, it does not appear to be an incident of robbery. An investigation, in this case, is underway.”
Meanwhile, sources said the daughter of the Railways official was also present in the house and she had informed the servant about the murders. The servant had then alerted the police.
Attacking the BJP government over the deteriorating law and order situation in UP, Congress leader Akhilesh Pratap Singh said, “The incident took place in the VIP area, which is considered the safest zone in Lucknow. Even with the CM’s House nearby and all roads equipped with CCTV, such incidents are happening. The crime graph is soaring in the state since this government came to power.”
“The area where the chief minister lives is considered a VVIP zone and even when a strict lockdown is in place criminals have the courage to shoot the wife and son of a senior railway official,” said Samajwadi Party MLC Sunil Singh Sajan. “This says it all about the current law and order situation in the state. People of the state are living in fear and criminals are having a free run.”

London Bridge Down: Death of Queen Elizabeth brings a moment of reckoning for Britain

LONDON: Queen Elizabeth II has died in Scotland aged 96 after battling health problems since last October, the Royal Family announced Thursday. Doctors had placed the queen under medical supervision at Balmoral Castle, her estate in the Scottish Highlands.
Buckingham Palace has just released the following statement: “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”
Her close family rushed to her bedside as doctors grew “concerned” about her health on Thursday, Buckingham Palace said. Her grandson and his wife, Harry and Meghan Markle – who had a public showdown with the Palace, flew in from Canada.
According to news agency AFP, the Queen pulled out of a planned meeting with her senior political advisors on Wednesday, after being told to rest. The previous day she had audiences at Balmoral – her Scottish Highlands retreat, with outgoing Prime Minister Boris Johnson and appointed his successor, Liz Truss.
In recent months, the Queen appeared visibly frail and had a series of withdrawals from public engagements. She had taken to walking with a stick and was also seen touring the Chelsea Flower Show in a motorized buggy.
In June, the UK came together for the Platinum Jubilee celebrations to mark the 70th anniversary of the Queen’s accession to the British throne. Her husband, Prince Phillip, died last year at the age of 99, two months before his 100th birthday.
Queen Elizabeth II’s tenure as head of state spanned post-war austerity, the transition from empire to Commonwealth, the end of the Cold War and the UK’s entry into – and withdrawal from – the European Union.
Her reign spanned 15 prime ministers starting with Winston Churchill, born in 1874, and including Liz Truss, born 101 years later in 1975, and appointed by the Queen earlier this week. She held weekly audiences with her prime minister throughout her reign.
