The government-owned telecommunications services company BSNL charges Rs 20 for every new SIM card. Similar to any private telecom companies, BSNL too asks for money if a user needs a SIM card. But as a promotional offer, the company has decided to give it away for free when a user makes a First Recharge (FRC) of a minimum of Rs 100. First noted by Telecom Talk, this is the condition put up by BSNL to be eligible for the free SIM card offer.
Kindly note, BSNL free SIM card offer comes for a limited period, that is, from November 14, 2020, to November 28, 2020. The promotional offer is valid for 15 days. Once the free SIM card offer ends, users will again have to pay Rs 20 to obtain a new SIM card from BSNL.
BSNL free SIM card offer is valid across all the telecom operations where the company is operating. In fact, BSNL could soon become a pan-India operator as MTNL’s license is expiring in January 2021 reportedly. As per a report from Business Standard, BSNL could soon start offering mobile services in Delhi and Mumbai circles.
For the unversed, BSNL operates in 20 telecom circles, whereas MTNL operates in Delhi and Mumbai circles for now. It is said that MTNL’s license is expiring in early 2021. Thus, it is expected that BSNL could take over the other two circles to become a pan-India operator.
How to get BSNL free SIM card
In order to avail of the BSNL free SIM card offer, customers can visit any nearest BSNL retail store. There, customers can get the connection along with the SIM card and can also get the FRC done for Rs 100 which is mandatory as part of the offer. Vodafone Idea will now be known as “VI”

Vodafone Idea said on Monday that it is rebranding itself, and Vodafone and Idea brands will now be known as “Vi”. The name Vi is much more than an abbreviation of Vodafone and Idea. VI read as ‘we‘ reflects the collective nature of Indian society, the company said.
Since the merger of Vodafone and Idea Cellular, the company has focussed on “integrating the two large networks, our people and processes”, Vodafone Idea managing director CEO Ravinder Takkar said. The rebranding initiative by the company comes amid intense competition in the country’s highly-indebted telecom sector.

Abbreviation of Vodafone and Idea. VI read as ‘we’
“Today I am delighted to present Vi, a brand that will bring important meaning to the lives of our customers. Indians are optimistic and want to get ahead in life,” said Mr. Takkar.
“They would love a credible partner to help them on this journey. Vi’s positioning is built around this promise and will focus on meeting the customer needs to help them thrive,” he added.
Vodafone Plc’s Indian arm had merged with Idea Cellular in August 2018. However, both Vodafone and Idea had maintained two separate brand identities to date.
“The integration of two brands is a culmination of the largest telecom integration in the world,” Vodafone Idea said.
Vodafone Idea is attempting to keep its businesses afloat in India after the Supreme Court, last week, gave telecom companies 10 years to pay adjusted gross revenue dues (AGR) dues.
On Friday, Vodafone Idea had declared its intention to raise fresh capital of up to ₹ 25,000 crores to pay off the hefty dues owed to the government. It plans to raise up to ₹ 15,000 crores through debentures and an equal amount by issuing shares and warrants.
